Author Guidelines

The Spectrum Journal of Physical Therapy (SJPT) welcomes original contributions that advance research, education, and practice in physical therapy and rehabilitation sciences. Authors are requested to carefully follow these guidelines before submitting their manuscripts.


1. Types of Manuscripts Accepted

  • Original Research Articles (3,000–6,000 words)

  • Systematic and Narrative Reviews (4,000–7,000 words)

  • Clinical Trials / RCTs (as per CONSORT guidelines)

  • Case Reports / Case Series (1,500–2,500 words)

  • Short Communications (up to 2,000 words)

  • Letters to the Editor (up to 1,000 words)


2. General Requirements

  • Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere.

  • Submissions must be prepared in English using Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx).

  • Format: Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced, with page numbers.

  • References must follow the APA 7th edition style (include DOIs where available).

  • Authors are responsible for securing permissions for copyrighted material (e.g., images, datasets).

  • All listed authors must consent to authorship.


3. Structure of Manuscript

  • Title Page

    • Title of the manuscript

    • Author(s): full names, affiliations, ORCID IDs, and email addresses

    • Corresponding author’s contact details

    • Funding and conflict of interest statement

  • Abstract (250–300 words)

    • Structured: Background, Objective, Methods, Results, Conclusion

    • Include 3–6 keywords (MeSH terms preferred)

  • Main Text

    • Introduction

    • Methods (study design, participants, interventions, ethics approval, analysis)

    • Results

    • Discussion

    • Conclusion

  • Acknowledgments (if applicable)

  • References (APA 7th edition)

  • Tables and Figures (submitted separately, high resolution, properly labeled)


4. Ethical Considerations

  • Studies involving humans or animals must include IRB/Ethics Committee approval.

  • Written informed consent is required for case reports or identifiable patient data.

  • SJPT follows COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines.


5. Plagiarism Policy

  • All manuscripts are screened with iThenticate/Turnitin.

  • Submissions with >19% similarity index or >5% from a single source may be rejected.


6. Submission Process

  • Submissions must be made via the online submission system: https://spectrumjpt.com

  • Each submission must include:

    • Cover Letter (declaring originality, authorship, conflict of interest)

    • Manuscript file

    • Tables/Figures (if separate)

    • Supplementary data (if applicable)


7. Review and Publication Process

  • All manuscripts undergo editorial screening followed by double-blind peer review.

  • The editorial office may request revisions before acceptance.

  • Editors may desk reject submissions that fail to meet quality, scope, or formatting standards.

  • Accepted manuscripts are published under the CC BY-NC 4.0 License.


8. Article Processing Charges (APC)

  • No submission or publication fee is currently charged.

  • Any future changes will be announced on the journal website.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.
